MBR problem in hard disk

when i goes to format a harddiak by dm it give me a massage to problem in mbr so please tell me the mbr can be writen again or any solution of this problem.

can you please be more specific and tell us the exact error message you are getting and also any other detail you would like to tell us and yes mbr can written again and also it can repaired and changed .

Rewrite Master Boot Record (MBR)

1. Download program Master Boot Record Auto write from this site : http://us1.download.acronis.com/supp...towrite_en.iso
   
   
2. Burn disk image to CD.
   
   
3. Boot your PC from this CD.
   
   
4. After you boot your PC, you should find this message :
   
   Starting Acronis Loader…
   XFDisk http://home.pages.de/~xfdisk will rewrite your
   Master Boot Record [MBR] automatically.
   Remove data medium and reboot now if you don’t want this.
   
   Press any key to rewrite MBR…
   
   
5. Enter and you find this message

Looks like he MBR of your hard drive has got corrupted. Have you run any drive testing software on it? Usually there are free tools available at the website of the hard drive manufacturer.

Run the tools from the manufacturer and see what you come up with - could be that the drive is failing and will have to be replaced.

I have ubuntu and Windows7 in my laptop. I wanted to install vista and when i tried it the existing windows7 started giving problem .and it was showing start up repairs. When i tried to fix the MBR the both OS(ubuntu and windows7) is lost and i am seeing only 2 options of Windows7 in laptop.When i select one option it is showing user login and immediately it is restarting...i have to shut down the laptop forcibly...
Please help me on this..as i have very important files in ubuntu.........

Do you have windows 7 disk with you because it will be helpful to take the option of repair from the disc in order to fix the corrupt MBR table, if it might be so. Other things you could do is, take the hard drive to your friends place and connect it in his computer and retrieve all the data and then freshly install the windows operating system from start onto the hard drive.

Thanks for reply..but i want to retrieve the data which is in ubuntu..is it possible..

My problem started when i i kept VISTA bootable cd..that vista cd was not proper..so installation of vista stopped beacuse of a corrupted or missing file..

Then Windows7 started getting startup repair problems ....
then i tried to repair it using windows7 cd....it was not done..

So i thought may be MBR problem so i did the following..
i typed the following in command prompt of startup repair

bootrec.exe/ FixMbr
Then message came as Operation successful.
Then i typed bootrec.exe/ FixBoot
bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd

THen it showed Operation Successful.

Then i typed
bcdedit /export c:\BCD_Backup
C:
cd boot
attrib bcd -s -h -r
ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
bootrec /ReBuild Bcd

Then i typed last 6 lines again..
then exited

When it was restarted it showing two Windows7 Ultimate options for me and keeps restarting....

Just tell me i can see all the data if i connect the hard disk to another PC
and be able to retrieve the data of ubuntu files...
