Here's how to make them visible:

    • Windows XP and ME users will double-click My Documents

    • and go to Tools,

    • Folder Options,

    • View and Uncheck "Hide Extensions for Known File Types."

And that's it . You have done it.

Here is much more detail how to do that. (you can always change the setting back to invisible):

    1. Go into Windows Explorer.
If you don't have a toolbar or shortcut (usually a file folder with a magnifying glass superimposed over it) to get there, you can

      • Choose Find from the Start menu
      • Choose Files and Folders from the side menu
      • Make sure "C:" is in the Look In box
      • Type "explorer.exe" in the Named box
      • Click the Find now button
      • Double-click "Explorer" when it appears in the lower window
      • Click OK

    2. In Windows Explorer, choose Folder Options from the Tools menu
(If you have Explorer version 4.0, you won't have a Tools menu -- instead, choose Options from the View menu )
    3. Click on the View tab
    4. Find "Hide File Extensions for Known File Types" and UNcheck its box.

Hi my name is Alisha Johnson. I am attending Herzing College Online and we had to do a topic about file type. Erskine I appreciate you going into details of how to make file type visible. I hope I get a good grade on my assignment if so I would let you know by adding another post.
