Squasfs is not a file but it is a kind of file system. It is used on Linux system. And to open any file based on that you will need a Linux OS. You can try using Ubuntu or any free Linux os on your system. There is two ways to install. First you can install the same on Windows itself without formatting and providing a separate partition. This will be easier and you can also remove the same from Control Panel. The second thing you can do is use virtualization tool to temporary open the file and check the same.
Instead of installing and making any changes to your existing system there is one more thing you can do. You can go ahead with booting your system through a bootable usb. Creating a bootable pen drive is much more easier. There are number of different linux distro available and they are fair easy to boot also. Pupply linux is the lightest one. You can create a bootable pen drive and run the same. It works well and allow you to internally access all the files.
The file system that is used by Linux which is read only and compressed is called SquashFS and is often found on Live CD´s used by various Linux Distribution.
