Fedora 10: Trial version before the final

Pending the final version of Fedora 10, expected around 25 November, the impatient can turn to an evaluation version, published this night, this distribution of Linux. This pre-release "or Release Candidate (RC), which made its appearance only a month after the release of the first beta of the software, offers a new idea implemented by the project and used to identify last bugs and various problems that may exist.

Fedora program 10, code-named Cambridge, there are of course updating of various utilities systems and components, starting with the Linux kernel 2.6.27.4, KDE 4.1.2, Xorg 1.5.2 and Gnome 2.24.1 . At the general functioning of the system, developers said they had been eager to accelerate the start, with the goal of the screen identifying the user in thirty seconds or less. The graphical boot manager rhgb (Red Hat Graphical Boot) was replaced by Plymouth, one of its alternatives.

With Fedora 10, a new Connection Manager allows you to simply share an Internet connection (wired, wireless and even 3G) through a wireless network ad hoc, made its appearance. Features printing and support for infrared remote or webcams have also been improved. The new 4.6 version of the RPM package manager, inherited from RedHat Fedora which is the free community version, makes its debut on such distribution. Finally, the ext4 file system is supported.

Before returning to the release notes, we should point out finally that the package manager RPM Fusion, meeting deposits unofficial Freshrpms, and rpm.livna.org Dribble, opens its doors at the exit of the RC Fedora 10.

    Fedora 10 available for download

According to its timetable, the team responsible for development of Fedora 10 today announced the availability of the final version of its Linux distribution, which is now offered for download. On the side of utilities and system components, it noted the move to Linux kernel 2.6.27.4 and KDE 4.1.2 or Gnome 2.24.1 and Xorg Server 1.5.2.

Fedora 10 would provide a rapid start, and sees the boot graphic rhgb (Red Hat Graphical Boot) replaced by Plymouth, one of its alternatives developed by Fedora contributors. A new connection manager, soberly called NetworkManager, can also simply share an Internet connection (wired, wireless and even 3G) through a wireless network ad hoc, made its appearance. In addition to a greater hardware compatibility, Fedora 10 provides further support for version 4.6 of RPM package manager, inherited from RedHat - which Fedora is the free community version.

Paul Frields, head of Fedora Project, said that the update servers record connections from 9.5 to 10.5 million unique IP addresses. Assuming that this could be an indicator - essentially very vague - the number of users that the software (versions 7, 8 and 9 combined), Fedora is one of the most Linux distributions used in the world: Canonical, the company that supports the Ubuntu project, table about it on a base of 8 million users a minimum.

    Download Fedora 10.

The latest Fedora is really nice, but the package management (installation of software/drivers etc..) in Ubuntu is way better. So i would recommend Ubuntu.
