    Replacing Domain Controller

    Hello,

    I need your opinion

    What we have:

    site 1
    Domain Controller 1 (DC1) - windows server 2000
    Domain Controller 2 (DC2) - windows server 2003
    Exchange Server 2007 - windows server 2003
Member Server - windows server 2008

    site 2
    Domain Controller 3 (DC3) - windows server 2003

    Site 3
    Domain Controller 4 (DC4) - windows server 2003

My task is replace DC1 with new DC5 (on member server 2008).

I am planing promote windows server 2008 to Domain controller

    then demote DC1.

My concern is how this promotion will cause on Exchange Server 2007?

What surprise I can get ?

    Thanks

Is your exchange server on a different machine? If it is on the same Windows server 2000 machine, do the following,
add a new Machine as second DC, install DNS and DHCP if needed, make it Global catalog, move the 5 FSMO roles. Change all clients to the new DNS server.

For Exchange install the new server as a member, Exchange on DC is not recommended by MS, add it to the exchange site and move mailboxes and public folders if used to the new machine. Then you have to remove the server.

PS: If Exchange is installed as a separate server, then I dont think it will be affected or messed up with replacing DC. However, I dont know much about Server 2008 so cant tell you surely.

Exchange is installed as a separate server (not DC), I also dont know much about Server 2008 and I cannot stop Exchange for rebuilding.
If I will get problems how I can return configuration back, is it possible?
    How I should prepare?

    Thanks
