    Reformat Kingston DT101G2 to exFAT

I have a old (6 months) Kingston DT101 G2 8GB drive whose file system is FAT 32. The drive works fine without any problem but now i have a large single file which is about 4.6GB in size. I want to copy the same on this pendrive but due to FAT32 it wont copy the same. Hence i tried to format the drive in exFat format but it gets failed every time. I mean windows is not allowing me to format the drive in exFat file system. Any suggestion please?

Are you getting any error message when the formatting fails? If yes, what is that error?

Until you reply, try out these steps:

    • Connect your Kingston DT101G2 to the USB port
    • Go to Start, click Run
    • Type 'diskmgmt.msc' without quotes and press Enter
    • This will open Disk Management window
    • Here select right click your pen drive and click Format. (make sure you select the right drive)
    • Select the system file type (exFAT) and confirm.

Hope it helps. If you get any error message here, dont forget to quote in your next reply.

Thanks for your help Jay-Esh. Well it seems like Disk Management will format the drive without any problem but I am not getting any option here to select exFAT. The only file types offered are Fat32 and NTFS.

    What to do now?

If the only reason for formatting the drive in exFAT is to copy larger files (above 4GB) then you can format the drive in NTFS as well. It too works fine with all size of files/data.

By the way what is your operating system?

I am using Windows XP Home. Anyways, as you suggested I formatted the drive in NTFS and the formatting went fine. I also copied the file without any problem.

    Help appreciated
