USB 3.0 not working on Gigabyte GA-X79S-UP5

I have recently bought a new Gigabyte GA-X79S-UP5 motherboard a couple of months ago. I am running Windows 7 on it which is working with 4gb of ram. When I connect any device in the USB 2.0 port then it works properly but if I try to connect any device in the USB 3.0 then it will not work at all. When I went in Device Manager then it was showing me unknown device under them. Can anyone tell me how do I get the USB 3.0 to work again on this motherboard? Thanks.

Did you try to ensure that you have the latest USB 3.0 drivers in your Windows 7 pc? You can simply find it on the CD/DVD that came with the motherboard package. Many people dont usually install the Usb 3 drivers thinking that it any usb 3 supported device should be plug and play. Also, there are sometimes 2 different Usb 3.0 controllers that has to be installed. Also check that the header of the front panel usb port is hooked up and then install the drivers properly.

Yes, you should know that usb 3 drivers doesnt come with Windows 7 preinstalled, so you need to download its driver seperately and install it in your pc in order to get USB 3.0 port to work. So, after checking out the Gigabyte website, I was able to find some drivers for your mobo's USB 3.0. Download the Fresco USB 3.0 driver from here and also download the VIA USB 3.0 from here. After installing it test the usb 3 port and see if it works or not.

Well, if it still isnt working for you then download the latest bios available for your gigabyte motherboard from here. Just remember to select the proper OS and then download the bios as per its requirement. After that install it in your system. Check if the usb 3.0 is working or not. If it is not working then get into the BIOS menu and then check if the USB 3.0 devices are enabled in the Peripherals section.
