My system is running on windows 7, i have asked about it some of my office mates and they have mentioned that i will lose all those Info's after updating to Outlook 2010, is it really so.

Yes one can migrate contacts list, address book, accounts and profiles to outlook to 2010 from Outlook 2007 without any issues. You can refer below steps for carrying out that task.
First Export all emails, contacts to your pst File, you can go through this article for doing that.
Once you are done, you can backup user profile by going in to Click Start > typing "%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook" without quotes and hitting enter. You can copy all items that comes up in different folder say abc.
Now after installing Outlook 2010 move the contents of abc folder in userprofile\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook and you are done.
