Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise has encountered an error during setup

I am having a Windows XP SP2 computer with was running with 2003 Office viewers and the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack. Now as per the requirement I bought Office Enterprises 2007 but my system is not allowing me to install the same. Every time I start the installation, it gives me an error saying “Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise has encountered an error during setup” and the setup quits.

This is because of the earlier installed Office versions. though you removed theme manually from Add and Remove programs, they use to leave some files and registry entries on the system. These are the ones conflict when you install any-other Office suits. Hence you need to remove those files as well.

There is a KB Article describing step by step process to do the same in various methods. Check this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218. once done with this, restart the computer and try to install Office Enterprises 2007. hopefully you wont be getting any problem.
