    Completely Disable Desktop Search?

I’m having a laptop running with Windows XP Pro Sp2 which was running with Office 2003 until yesterday, today morning I updated it Office 2007 that installed Desktop Search by default on my system. As this is slowing down my laptop too much I wanted to uninstall it from my laptop. I tried searching web how to disable it and got two methods.

First was with registry where we need to change the Value to Zero of a key ShowStartSearchBand under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Desktop Search\DS. I did that but it dint helped. Second was to disable Windows Search. Well I did that too but yet not helped.

Somebody please give me the working steps to disable Desktop Search.

I don’t think you really required to edit the registry key or to disable the Windows default search. The desktop search is just a tool bar that is located under taskbar tool bar. You can disable it right from there in few clicks. Just right click taskbar, click Toolbar and uncheck Windows Search Deskbar. That’s it. If will disappear .

Well I dont know how did you removed the Desktop Search that effected your Outlook as well. What you can do now is revert back to normal, reverse your steps your performed to remove the same. See if your Outlook is working and Desktop search is visible. Once you get to Normal stage, follow these steps to remove Windows Desktop Search.

Open command Prompt and run the following code:
    C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB917013$\spuninst\spuninst.exe /passive

    That’s it.
