I remember when Android came to the market, Nokia's Symbian business started falling down slowly day by day. They were surely in huge problem. Later Nokia came in collaboration with Microsoft and launched few Lumia devices which brought them back to the fight. Now until August 2013, Nokia has provided many awesome Windows Phone 8 running Lumia devices which are not only better in performance, features and Camera but also in durability. I have seen some videos on YouTube showing hammer test, knife test, etc on Lumia phones which is survived successfully with this devices. So since Nokia came with Lumia, they came back in the competition, a strong competition.
Seems like Microsoft is pretty impressed with such success of Windows Phone 8 based smartphones, which made them think to acquire the entire Nokia Devices & Services business which includes about 32000 Nokia employees which will now work under Microsoft for making the phones. Furthermore the deal also includes licensing a significant portion of Nokia’s patents in addition to their mapping services. All these will cost 5.44 Billion Euros to Microsoft which comes about 7.2 Billion US dollars.
Nice deal for both the brands.
