The ICC World Twenty20 England 2009 will be held in June 2009 and provides the opportunity to see the very best players in the world, representing their countries, showcasing Twenty20 cricket on a global stage.

It will be the second ICC World Twenty20 with the inaugural event taking place in South Africa in 2007, when India defeated Pakistan in the final.

The 2009 event sees both the men’s and women’s tournament integrated for the first time. The men’s tournament format consists of 12 teams, played across three venues – Lord’s, Trent Bridge and The Oval.

The women’s tournament consists of eight teams with the group stage games hosted at Taunton.The semi-final days hosted at Trent Bridge and The Oval and the finals day hosted at Lord’s will bring the two tournaments together with the men’s matches following the women’s match on each match-day.

Zimbabwe : the team which has been playing International cricket for quite some time and although their test & ODI performance were not upto the mark - they had beaten Australia in the inaugural twenty20 world cup in south africa.. yet - they have opted out of this 2nd T20 World Cup. Reason : Zimbabwe cricket doesn't think UK Government will issue visas for their team members! strange but true..

The ICC has also announced top two ranked teams in each group and given them a number 1 and 2 respectively. They will retain this number irrespective of whether they finish first or second in the group.

For example if Bangladesh top ranked Group A and India finished second in the same group; India will still remain as A1 and Bangladesh will remain as A2 in Super Eights stages. If Zimbabwe knockout Bangladesh in Group A then Zimbabwe will become A2.

Again bangaladesh is in the same group. remember the first match of world cup 2007 when bangladesh beat india. This time India will have to beat Bangladesh to defend the world cup. If they loose the match against Bangladesh they should take the next flight home.
