    Wireless home networking issue

I am trying to wirlessly network 2 computers for file and printer sharing. I have a desktop(with windows xp professional) and laptop(windows xp home), both have wireless adapters and connect to the internet perfectly through a linksys b-router on another desktop in my house

Here is my issue, I folowed all the steps to setting up a file sharing network,
    1. ran wireless network setup wizard on both computers
2.enabled file sharing and client for microsoft networks features
    3. disabled firewalls
    4. set selected folders to be shared on network
    5. put both computers under same workgroup name and named them both
    6. I am the administrator of both pc's
    7. Both are updated with service pack2

After all this, when I go to 'my network places'> 'view workgroup computers' the laptop recognizes both computers and any folders shared form the laptop, but when I try to do the same on the desktop, I get and error message stating the following:
" Workgroup is not accessible. you might not be able to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
"The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available".

I added the other desktop computer where the router is to the workgroup and it shares with the laptop fine and recognizes the other desktop.....I have been through sooo many troubleshooting sites and have no luck...what could be the issue??

With wireless networks, the sharing computers may be too far away or there may be obstructions preventing you from getting to your shared files and printers on the other PCs.

It sounds like you have a Browser/Master Broswer problem. Make sure that the Computer Browser Service is started.

Look for errors in the System Log.

It can also be something to do with the user accounts you are using - check that they both have access to the shared folder on the other machine, and also check the share permissions on the folders.

As a test, you could disable your antivirus for a few minutes to test it, then enable it again.

Disabled 3rd party firewalls sometimes still cause blocking problems. Please try the following. If the ping tests all work, there is a good chance that you have some registry corruption on that computer. Are you using Simple File Sharing?

To determine a computer's IP address: open a Command Window and type
    ipconfig /all

    Now for some troubleshooting:
    1. On each PC open a Command window and type
ping IPofOther (where IPofOther is the IP address of the other PC)

Do you get Replies, or do you get packets lost?

      If you got Replies,

    2. Do the same ping except use the Computer Name of the other computer:
      ping NameOfOtherPC

      Replies or lost packets?

If you got Replies to either or both,

    3. Then
      Start - Run - \\IPofOther - OK

With luck after about a minute you should get an explorer window showing the other PC's shares. If not, what is the error message?

One more setting to check to see your network:
On the computer you cannot see the network with, right click on the drive properties and check the Quota tab, disable quotas.
