Linksys EA4500 vs. Netgear WNDR4500 vs. Asus RT-N66U router?

I am planning to buy a new router for my home and I have closed down my search on three routers, which are Linksys EA4500, Netgear WNDR4500 and Asus RT-N66U router. I don’t have much knowledge about hardware and I am confused which among these will be the best for use. If someone with good knowledge about hardware who can help me about these routers, please help me out with this?

All the three routers that you have mentioned are good for use at home and will help you getting good connection at home. I mean if you are going to use a high speed internet, then these three routers will support the bandwidth with frequency of 2.4 GHZ and also frequency of 5.0GHz. This will be really helpful for you if you are using wired connection or wireless connection. It will provide you good transfer speed provided the internet connection that you have subscribed for is compatible with this router. I use Netgear WNDR4500 on my PC and also get the Wi-Fi network for my tablet PC. I think it is a great router which will provide you good service.

You should not go with a Netgear because they always burn out so fast.Try D-Link I have one myself and it has not burned out.

Yes, even I agree that Netgear router is bad. I had almost more than 15 router from the same manufacturer and all of them have failed at some stage. I wouldnt recommend anyone to buy netgear product ever in my life again. These kind of routers have many problems like connection dropping, sometimes weak wifi signal and many such things.

If you have chosen these routers for your use, then you obviously need to have Wi-Fi connections. You haven’t mentioned the amount of area that you need to cover using this wireless network, but let me tell you that Linksys EA4500 router and Netgear WNDR4500 router can provide you the largest radius for the Wi-Fi network. This is because it has 6 antennas on its body that will provide you good wireless network in a big radius. Also the Asus RT-N66U router is good, but it might not provide good results as the other two routers. By good results, I mean lower radius for as there are only 3 antennas on its body only. But if the area of your residence is of average size, then Asus RT-N66U router will help you for sure.

The speed of these routers are same, all three routers can provide you with 450 Mbps speed for both download and upload. The Wi-Fi speed might vary depending upon the device you are using. Since the capacity of every device with Wi-Fi network is different, I cannot say for sure how this routers will perform with every other devices. I personally think that you should go for Asus RT-N66U router as it is good for normal use while other two routers, which are Linksys EA4500 and Netgear WNDR4500 are for the professional use. Also all three routers have Gigabit Ethernet in it.

Re: Linksys EA4500 vs. Netgear WNDR4500 vs. Asus RT-N66U router?

If you need a router which will provide access to more than three to four devices at a time, then Linksys EA4500 and Netgear WNDR4500. One good thing about Netgear WNDR4500 is that it has two USB ports on it. This can be used to connect the route to two PCs directly. Other two routers in the list have just one USB port on it. One great thing about Asus RT-N66U router is that it has direct slot for SD card. Other two routers don’t have this feature. This means that you can access data directly in the memory card. If you need this feature, then Asus RT-N66U router is really helpful for you.

Re: Linksys EA4500 vs. Netgear WNDR4500 vs. Asus RT-N66U router?

Netgear WNDR4500 and Asus RT-N66U router have same cpu in them. The cpu that is used in these routers is BCM4706 which has clock speed of 600 Mhz. As compared to this, Linksys EA4500 has MRVL F6W01A1E processor in it. This processor will give a clock speed of 800 MHz. Again the switch that is used in Netgear WNDR4500 and Asus RT-N66U routers is that of BCM53115 while in Linksys EA4500 has Marvell 88E6171R. Also the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz radio switch is BCM4331 in both Netgear WNDR4500 and Asus RT-N66U router. Similarly in Linksys EA4500 switch used for 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz radio switch is 88W8063 and 88W8366.

Re: Linksys EA4500 vs. Netgear WNDR4500 vs. Asus RT-N66U router?

The RAM in all these routers is of different memory types. For example, Netgear WNDR4500 has 128 MB of RAM as well as Flash memory. Asus RT-N66U router has 256 MB of RAM and 32 MB of Flash memory. Linksys EA4500 has 64 MB of RAM and same amount of Flash memory. Only Asus RT-N66U router is one such router which has DD-WRT firmware in it. This will make it run in Linux and many other operating systems.
