There are number of reasons for that error. I got a troubleshooting link which offers detail information on why the error is caused. You can try reading out the steps and carry out solutions mentioned inside the link.

Just follow the suggestions that I am going to give and see if that works for you. First of all open Exchange Management Console. After that expand Server Configuration and then choose Mailbox. Now try to open the Mailbox Database properties of the First Storage Group in the Database Management tab. After that go to the General Tab and make sure that the name of the database is mailbox database and apply the changes and click ok.

Have you tried to ensure that the user who used to create mailboxes is a member of the 'Recipient Management' group? If you want to run the Granular Recovery Technology backips and restores of Exchange 2007 servers, then the backup Exec Logon Account given should have an active and unique mailbox in Exchange. Check the article on "How to add a mailbox for new user in exchange 2007" from here - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../aa998197.aspx
