Cannot scan email attachment with Avast

Normally, I save all the email attachment on the desktop and then used to scan that with the Avast and then use that file. but now I am not able to scan those file. If I right click on the file and select scan with Avast then it does nothing. If I do the same with any of the other folders then there is no problem with that. I am just not able to scan the email attachment. Please help me to get this solved.

If some of the installed files of the antivirus is corrupted or missing then you might get the issues like this. What you can do is, go to the control panel and open add or remove software. This will show you the list of program. Click on repair/uninstall from the right side of the Avast and then choose the option to repair that. Now, it will do rest of the thing automatically and you will get the issue solved without any problem.

It is possible, but only in the Professional edition. This feature is not in the home version. If you use the Professional edition, follow these steps:
    • Start the Advanced interface avast.
    • Click on Tasks in the left pane.
    • From the right pane, click the right mouse button resident protection and choose properties.
    • Check the Advanced Settings.
    • In the left pane, under Outlook/Exchange or Internet Mail, click Virus.
    • Click the button removes the last word and then the Delete button.
    • Press Yes to save your changes.

In Avast, you will have to change some setting otherwise it could not scan your emails. Use the following steps to do this:
    1. Close Outlook Express.
    2. Start Mail Protection Wizard and select "Automatically remove protection from all my accounts."
    3. Start Outlook Express.
    4. In Outlook Express, check the server address and user name. If you do not know the appropriate settings, contact your ISP.
    5. Close Outlook Express (very important).
    6. Start Mail Protection Wizard again.
    7. Select "Configure Protective".
    8. Select "I do not use MS Outlook ..."
    9. Follow the onscreen instructions and you will be done with that.

You are getting this problem because there is incompatibility with the avast! antivirus "MSN Desktop Search". This is the reason for this issue.

Try to update the database of the Avast and see if that helps you to get this problem solved or not. If this solves the problem then it is fine otherwise you can go for the re-installation of the Avast. Make sure that you have tried with all the other possible solutions and this is the last option for you.

Just move that file to some other drive and then try to scan the same file from there. See if you are getting the same problem there also. so do this and reply back so that we can move on to some further solution for this problem.

Just go to the settings of the Avast and from there restore the settings to the default. See if this can solve the problem for you.
