    Is data on cloud protected?

Is there anyone who knows that data stored on cloud is protected to what extent? I mean to say that if the iCloud fulfill the security standards intended for HIPAA? I will really appreciate if someone of you can give some explaining suggestion on this.

Pogoplug is a network storage device that is used to share a very simple and secure way: your photos, videos, music, files with anyone you choose. There is trouble to upload your data to an external web server. Remove just the hard drive connected to your Pogoplug, invite people by email of your choice by defining the type of shared (read-only or download) and disseminate this link on your favorite social networks. Access to data is done using the Pogoplug secure web portal or a desktop client for Linux / Mac OS X / Windows, or even their mobile application for the Pogoplug iPhone, Android, and Blackberry.

Cloud computing shines a new light on familiar topics. A central aspect is the IT -security. This is particularly true for widely accessible public clouds, their providers often provide very simple process for the contract and the provision of services, including the migration of data in the cloud. This will reduce the security needs and requirements of customers, however. Even the protection of personal data in the cloud requires appropriate technical and organizational measures for the IT security.

Compliance requirements of the customer and legal requirements for specific data set additional criteria for IT security. The implementation requires not only the analysis and evaluation of the safety measures of the provider by the customer. Measures are necessary before the use of cloud.

Security concerns slow the expected rapid rise of cloud computing yet. How to respond to the concerns of the company was also the subject of a conference of the industry association Bitkom in Cologne. "As long as there are criminals, we cannot guarantee total security," said Microsoft CEO. Deutsche Telekom CEO René Obermann emphasized the high safety standards in their own data centers, but pleaded for more government solutions such as certificates, in order to strengthen the confidence of customers. The legal uncertainty is a key issue in the implementation of cloud computing model in enterprises.

The risks would be evaluated in accordance with the proportionality. Sure it could lead to data leaks but this risk should not be considered one-sided. What matters is what happens when such violations occur.

Re: Is data on cloud protected?

Data and applications to outsource to the cloud 'and from the Internet as a service by an external service provider, is seductive. Advantages are: low cost, flexibility and performance of a professionally managed IT infrastructure. Companies need to purchase servers and software solutions themselves, but hire the needed capacity for data, computing power and applications from professional providers such as Amazon Web Services, Google, IBM and Microsoft.

On the one hand, the strategy of outsourcing to the cloud allows companies to focus on their core competencies and develop new business opportunities. On the other hand, however, paralyze the dependence on external IT systems, whose failure caused by technical failures, or malware, hacker attacks not only communication, but also entire business or production processes can be put.
