norton virus definitions taking lots of hard drive space

I have recently been having problems with my hard drive. It seems to be full up of space when there is no major programs or files on the hardrive itself I defragged it did a disk cleanup etc etc but it just keeps on filling up. So i scanned the hard drive to see the percentage of hard drive usage only to see that my norton virus definitions take up around 16GB of my 30 GB space, Why is this and how should i deal with the problem?

This is not a problem of virus, it might be a case that the temp files and antivirus definitions are taking a lot of space in your hard drive. You just need to clear cache of any internet browser that you should be using. Or follow the below steps to free up space in your hard drive:
    1. First of all click the Start button and then click Control Panel.
    2. After that double-click Symantec LiveUpdate.
    3. Next you have to click Update Cache tab in LiveUpdate Configuration window.
    4. Click Remove All Files From Cache.
    5. Click Ok.
