Cisco IOS for router for BGP routing protocol

Hi, I am configuring the cisco '2811' routers, and I came to know that it requires BGP exterior routing protocol, though the IOS version 12.4 that is currently installed in the router doesn’t support the BGP routing protocol. I have tried a lot to search on the internet for an IOS version that supports BGP as well, but didn’t found anything, so I think I might be wrong that that the 12.4 didn’t support BGP isn’t it? if yes then please let me know how to configure for that? any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

I consider that the IP Base set does not always support for all the protocols including the one you have mentioned but as far as I know you can make use of the IP Plus, because through this you can easily configure for the BGP as well. I am not very much sure about this but I have heard that there are certain tools that you can use to determine which version you should install in the router you have, so according to me you should at least find for such.

I am not sure that 12.4 version of IOS supports BPG or not but still as the above user mentioned you can have option to go through the tool called ‘ciscos feature navigator’, at least you can figure out which OS would be better, and as there are multiple OS such as Cisco IOS, IOS XE, IOS XR and CatOS, If you have idea about this software you can make use of them to determine whether they supports BGP or not.

I have the same opinion as the above user as you should try to use this tool for getting the idea about the compatibility, and there are multiple searching features, so from that you need to search the BGP beneath feature. And you need to select the platform as well, but If you don’t want to bother about this as much you can try the further version for sure, as far as I know you can make use of 15.2 version for this protocol.

I would say you are wrong at some extent, as you can configure the settings through the IOS you have. Either you have done any mistake while configuring or you don’t know exactly how to do that, so for that you can have two option as you can refer their website or you can simply download the Cisco IOS IP Configuration Guide from the internet, so form their only you’ll come to know the configuring details.
