Cannot get valid IP address with Netgear WNDR3700

I am having the Netgear WNDR3700 router that is not allowing my computer to get connected to internet. I don’t think that the difficulty is with the Netgear router because I am getting the same thing with D-Link DIR-655. If I connect my computer directly to the cable modem then it gets connection to internet without any problem. But if I connect the computer to router with cable modem then it fails to connect to the internet. I am able to go to 192.168.1.1 and build modifications to router. On my computers, I cannot access 192.168.1.1.When I connect the router to the computer then the only IP they get is like 164.xx.xx.xx which is not working. Please help me.

OK, you can try this to see if that solves the problem for you. First of all you will have to turn off the router and connect just your computer to the router and en sure that you have not connected the modem to the router. Now turn on the router and wait till it boots and then see if you get the IP address. If that also does not help you then you can try to make use of the Repair function which you will find in the network card menu. I hope that you will have the valid IP after this.

It may be that the modem is attempting to allocate 192.168.1.1 to the router. So the router is puzzled since mutually WAN as well as LAN is with the similar IP. If you contain an IP, login to router 192.168.1.1 as well as modify the LAN IP to 192.168.254.1 and save this setting. Switch off the router. Restart the modem while it is up, connect router as well as turn it on. Check if the computer is getting the IP.

You can try by putting the static IP similar to the one given below and see if that can solve the issue for you.
    • IP: 192.168.1.20
    • netmask: 255.255.255.0
    • gateway: 192.168.1.1

    • DNS1: 206.13.29.12
    • DNS2: 206.13.30.12

I meet the same issue previous night through my WNDR3700. I am replying to this thread since I was searching for issues associated to an anonymous network, WNDR3700, as well as Ceton InfiniTV. I isolated the matter to the Media Center PC. It seems that somehow Ceton card crashed as well as hijacked LAN connections in order that every PCs on network were not able to obtain a suitable IP address. Subsequent to swapping routers, plugging as well as unplugging, I lastly realized that Media Center PC was reason for that. When I powered it down then the matter get resolved.

You can try to update the FW on the router (sw download when the PC is connected directly to the review of the wall) and check what is the ip to add the device when connected directly to the patch of wall. If you are receiving a valid IP address (like 192.168.1.x), try to ping a website at the command prompt.
