question Problem connecting to Linksys wireless router

hi all, first post, thanks in advance.

Just got new old dell running XP from dads office, having trouble connecting to wireless network at home. sometimes it works, but then i shut the computer off and when i start it up again, or even bring it out of stand by, it wont work. when i click repair in the wireless networks window, it gets through every step up to renew ip address. then it fails. i tried renewing the ip address in the command prompt, but it doesnt work because "ethernet adapter media disconnected" or something. by the way, the icon in the lower left corner showing the connection status shows either the yellow ball thingy aquiring network address or the red 'X'. solution? please?

also, i profusely apologize if this is in the wrong category.

also, i am posting this from another computer on the same wireless network.

    also, The Game.

The very first thing that i will advise you is nothing but to uninstall and reinstall the Network driver. First uninstall the driver and download and install the latest driver for the device of yours. Now restart the computer and try to make the connection and see whether this is working with the issue of yours or not. I hope this will work with the issue of yours.

btw, i just noticed the status window says that the connection issue is due to something about my computer not being assigned a network address. does that clear anything up?

To work with the issue it is better to assign the network again by Windows Automatically. For that you have to go with the below given instruction that might help you to resolve the issue which you are getting.

    • Right Click on My Computer Icon
    • Select Properties from Context Menu
    • Go to Hardware tab
    • Click on Device Manager
    • In the same find network adapter of yours
    • Right Click on Same
    • Click on Uninstall
    • Click on Ok
    • Restart Computer
    • Let Windows Automatically install the driver and set up for same.

there's a problem there. i don't have the driver disk, so if i do that, windows will ask me to find the driver on a website. i cannot access any websites unless i have an internet connection. also, i was finally able to connect to a neighbors network, but that is only a temporary fix. so the problem is not with the receiving end.
