how to stop Autoplay permanently in Modem

I have a 3G modem with SD slot, and of course I am plugging it in and out every time, though I don't know why it perseveres in performing this function, since there is no “autorun.inf” file, and it would appear to disregard ‘Take no Action’ as well while I press cancel the dialog still displays. It would appear to be rather weakly executed and worse still defectively supported one would think. Is there any method to solve this problem? Obviously the feature was half-baked, otherwise cancel would actually work. Please someone give information to these irritating circumstances.

To solve this issue, download and install “Tweak UI” (This Power Toy provides you access to system settings) for Windows XP from microsoft.com. “Tweak UI” gives access to system settings which are accessible via the Windows XP default user interface. This option includes:
    1. Enable/ disable “autoplay” for removable drives.
    2. Also Enable/disable “autoplay “for CD and DVD drives.
    3. And Enable/disable” autoplay” for each drive letter.
    4. Autoplay managers.

If this doesn't help you to solve your problem, then ask Microsoft for more help.

You may be able to turn off “AutoPlay” follow some following steps:
    1. Click on Start- Run, and type “GPEDIT.MSC” to release Group Policy in the Microsoft Management Console.
    2. Then open Computer Configuration- Administrative templates- System, and at the end click Turnoff autoplay.
    3. The information on your display explains how to arrange this setting.
    4. Click on Properties to show the setting dialog.
    5. Click Enabled, and select the modem, and then click on OK.

I think this is enough for you to solve the problem.

Re: how to stop Autoplay permanently

It depends on the version of Windows which you are using; there are dissimilar updates which you must have to install to properly disable the Autorun functionality:
    1. To stop or disable the Autorun functionality in Windows Server 2008 or in Windows Vista, you must have security update installed (update 950582) in your computer system.
    2. To stop or disable the Autorun functionality in Windows 2000, in Windows Server 2003 or in Windows XP, you must have security update 950582 or update 967715 or update 953252 installed in your system.

Re: how to stop Autoplay permanently

Actually, the major function of “Autorun” is to present a software response to hardware events which you establish on a computer. “Autorun” has the following features:
    1. Contextual Menu
    2. Double-Click and
    3. AutoPlay

These three features are normally called from network shares or from removable media. For the duration of AutoPlay, the Autorun.inf file parsed from the media. This file states which commands or programs the system runs. Lots of companies use this functionality to start their installers.
