Try to remove any existing Internet security programs by following the below instruction:
1.For windows XP. Go to Start menu and select Run this will open a command prompt window, type appwiz.cpl in cmd and then press ENTER .
For Windows Vista or Windows 7. Go to Start menu and select in the Start Search box and type appwiz.cpl in the box and then press ENTER .
2.You will get list of all the installed programs. From the list uninstall if any third-party Internet security programs is installed
    3.Reboot your computer
4.And then try to install Microsoft Security Essentials.
Sometime the security essentials do not uninstall completely. To uninstall it completely you need to download cleanup utility and run it to completely remove the security essential.

You will get error 0x80070005 when an access is denied either for a file or folder or registry entry and you will get error 0x80070002 when a file or folder or registry key is missing.Have you noticed any entry when it is scanning and stops and gives you there error codes? If not then you can have look for these errors in Event viewer. This will highlight the path or the entry where it is getting difficulty. To get rid of this solution you must immediately contact the Microsoft security essential by submitting the case online.

For Windows Vista or Windows 7.Go to Start menu and click in the Start Search box and type services.msc in the box and then press ENTER .
2.Right-click on Windows Installer and then select Start . If stop and restart options are available but start option is missing then start option is already selected.
3.On the File menu from services select Exit .
4.For Windows XP. Go to Start menu and click Run this will open command prompt and type cmd and then press ENTER .
For Windows Vista or Windows 7. Go to Start menu and click in the Start Search box and then type command prompt in box. Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator .
5.Type MSIEXEC /REGSERVER and press ENTER . There will be no indication whether this program fails or succeed
6.Try to install Microsoft Security Essentials again.

To prevent such problem to occur you need to perform regular registry maintenance and make sure that no unauthorized changes are done to it. To reset the system drive letter perform the following steps:
1]Turn On your system and press F8 continuously during startup and from the windows advanced options menu scoll down and select safe mode to start your system in safe mode.
2]Go to start menu and select run and type regedit and press enter
3]In the registry window locate the following keys:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices
4]Edit it and change the value of system drive
    5]Exit registry editor window and
    6]Then restart your computer
You can use reliable registry scanner tool to make your registry healthy and error free such as RegGenie.
