    Setup WHS VMware as host and Server 2008 as client

    Hello,
    I have the following
    Hardware: HP StorageWorks X510
    I want my WHS, which is currently mainly as a file server and Teamspeak 3 Server is used for more services such as groupware (Tine 2.0) use. Since I was at the WHS more frequently and I want to go outside, makes me wonder whether the following scenario works: WHS as a host on the Virtual Box, VMware Workstation o. etc. will be installed. In a VM on the WHS should be a MS Server 2008 (R2) or a WIN XP running XAMPP as a base for what, etc. TS3 serves. My question does this works? If you have an experience in this then please let me know. Thank you.

    yes, this works so far. Whether the processing power of HP's sure enough, I can not answer you. The RAM should in any case be beyond the 2 GB. This is my configuration and on this, it works very good. You can try again.

    Why not on the C: \ (system drive), the VM and the VM software config file. The VM disks to the file D: \ (storage disk)? For the Win XP VM with XAMPP but should an E5200 (2.5 GHz), 2 GB PC2-6400 (800MHz) thick enough. CPU and memory ideln atm around with TS3 server in about 5% and 40%. This is likely to go out but is not it? For NEN R2 has run only ads with XMAPP and 15-20 objects but also it should work with it.

    The WHS is running but only with 2 GB really about. If you now extort a 2 GB for VMs, the host effectively remain less than 1 GB, since each VM is allocated more RAM than they need. And 512 MB for a VM, in my view, the absolute lower limit. VMware Workstation, I would not take it, but the (free) VMware Server, because this is free and even I guess open source.

    It works without problems!

    State of affairs:
    WHS = HOST
    VMWare Server installs and configures 2:02
    VM 1 = Windows XP SP3 + XAMPP is running and reachable over the WAN (Apache Port Forwarding + NAT allocated to the VM and the Port)
    Actual system load of the host, ie the HP WHS X510 (during the patching: ~ 30% CPU, 1.4 GB RAM - IDLE: 5%, 1.2 GB RAM). I make myself to the groupware and the TS.
