Email settings for Avast Free Antivirus

I am using Avast Free Antivirus 5 and would like to try to monitor both ingoing and outgoing emails on my Hotmail and Yahoo email accounts. I just use their web-based facilities for handling their emails at the moment (so do not use Windows Mail or similar).

In "SSL Accounts" (in the Avast Mail Shield section) the entry columns to be filled are:

    Host name,Protocol,Port and Encryption

Do I need to enter 2 rows of info (ingoing and outgoing) for each account and what exactly should these entries be please?

For illustration purposes, suppose the accounts are hhh.hotmail.com and yyy.co.uk

Many thanks for any help. I could not seem to find the required info on the Avast site.

In your email client, change the username like this: email@address#localhost:2000 Inside the email client options, set the POP3 server port number to 110. The below suggestions also worked for me:
    1. Open your email client program.
    2. Locate the email account settings for your particular client.
    3. Change the POP server to pop.att.yahoo.com.
    4. Change the SMTP server to smtp.att.yahoo.com.
    5. Check the option labeled Use an encrypted connection (SSL) and change the SMTP port to 465.
    6. Check the option labeled Use an encrypted connection (SSL) and change the POP3 port to 995.
    7. Confirm the above settings then click OK.

Re: Email settings for Avast Free Antivirus

    James,

Thanks for your help and the settings. Unfortunately I don't use an email client at present. I've since found some info on the Avast forum and it seems Avast virus free 5.0 cannot be used to directly monitor ingoing and outgoing emails unless they are popped via an email client. I guess then that I will just have to set up an email client!
