Using VMware server 1.0 on Workstation 5.5

    Hi,
I am looking for some solution over running a VMware server 1.0 on VMware Workstation 5.5. What does this offers if there is a need to create a virtual environment on an enterprise level to share digital documents around the world. Does this easy or the service is very complicated which needs a systematized staff to manage all the operations. What you think for the same.

VMWare is the heavyweight of virtualization, the company is specialized in this field. The publisher offers several solutions, including VMware Workstation and the new VMware Server, completely free. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, features in the two versions differ slightly: VMWare Server is a product rather for businesses it installs on a server starts as a service and allows access to multiple users or remote control of the application via a client.

It lacks the refinement of VMWare Workstation, an application designed to use a single user, such as creating multiple backups of the system state guest or the shared directory for sharing files between the host system and the guest system. Both versions are however available for Windows and Linux and Mac OS X version of VMware Workstation is also planned.

VMWare interface, common to both products is very elaborate and more compact than Virtual PC. The console to run different virtual machines created is incorporated into the window as a sidebar. The creation of machines is done similarly to that of Virtual PC but there is this time the openness of the publisher: unlike Virtual PC, VMWare hosts many operating systems with open arms and offers assistants for each of them.

It is possible to create virtual machines reconfigured for Suse Linux, Ubuntu, Solaris or Red Hat. We note in passing some significant details, such as visual support for setting memory, the software will indicate clearly the maximum memory to allocate and adjust the most relevant. Once created, the various machines are present in the form of tabs and it is very easy to move from one machine to another (provided, of course, have enough RAM to run multiple simultaneous) .

Installing Windows XP runs quite normally and as quickly as a normal. The system installed at the outset seems more responsive than Virtual PC for Windows, without having installed any further. Like Virtual PC, VMWare Workstation in effect requires the installation of additions on the guest system. The VMWare Tools installed automatically from the VM menu> Install VMWare Tools.
