An error occurred in avast! engine: Invalid argument

    Hi friends,

I am having computer system with 'Ubuntu 9.10' operating system. Before two days I have installed the Avast antivirus on my computer system. But the actual thing is that, whenever I try open the avast, I immediately get an error message saying that 'An error occurred in avast! engine: Invalid argument'. I am not able to find out the exact cause behind this error message. If you have any suggestions to resolve this issue, then please let me know that.

You are getting this uses because there might be some problem in your avast antivirus. I think some of the files of your avast antivirus may be corrupted. And only because of that you are have been getting this error message. In the way to resolve this avast error, you will need to reinstall it on your computer system. I hope it will definitely works for you.

I have to ask one question to you, why are you using avast on your Ubuntu?. The basic thing is that, the Linux operating system doesn't get infected bay any virus. So, I think you don't need to have any antivirus for your operating system. The also if you wan to resolve this issue, then please try re-installation of avast.

I was also getting the same error message for Avast antivirus. At that situation I completely removed avast workstation, and after this I did the deletion of avast folder which is from the home. After this I did the re-installation of avast antivirus, surprisingly this trick worked for me. You can also try this solution for your query.

Have you tried following solutions? If not then try out it first:
    • Try re-installation of Avast antivirus.
    • Try re-installation of your 'Ubuntu 9.10'.
    • Use antivirus other than Avast.
