Some router provides effectiveness of intrusion detection like few false positives where it gives you accuracy of detection and alerting. It gives you protection from well known trojans and backdoors recognized and alerts generated. It alerts you of dangerous attacks (via email or other methods). Check out also that your router also have local and remote loggings (via syslog) of passed or blocked packets by default, or on a per rule basis.
