Hp laptop disconnects PS3 from the network when connected

I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router which is used to configure a small home network. Home network consist of 2 laptops and a Play station 3. The operating system on Sony laptop is Windows XP while operating system on the HP laptop is Windows 7. The problem is whenever I try to connect HP laptop to the router, play station 3 and other laptop gets disconnected from the network. I am not that into networking and hence dont exactly know what is creating such problem. So if anybody can explain me why PS3 disconnects when Hp laptop is connected to network it would be really helpful.

First check if the router is configured properly or not. If the router is not configured properly then the devices which are connected to the router will not be able to access all the resources of the network. You will have to login to the router using the default IP address which can be found out by referring user manual. Once logged in to the router, open the configuration page and then contact the ISP to get all the settings which are required for the router to share the connection. Once all the settings are done, save the configuration and then reboot the router.

When all the devices which are connected on the network, all the devices should have a unique IP address. If the IP address of two or more devices are same then the network will disconnect both the devices from the network. I think the playstation and the laptop must be having same IP address and hence the PS3 is getting disconnected from the network. Open the network connection wizard on the laptop and go to LAN properties. Select TCP/IP properties and then configure the static IP address to the computer. Save and apply the settings. Try to connect the laptop to the router. Hopefully it works.

Try doing a full power cycle and see if the problem still persist or not. Sometimes the router/modem are not able to register all the MAC address of the devices which are connected. If such situation occurs then the router will disconnect the already connected device when a new device is connected. To perform a full power cycle, shut down all the devices which are connected to the network. Remove all the cable connections between the devices. Redo all the cable connections of the network. Now start the Router/modem and then let it stabilize. Once stabilized then try to connect the devices to the router. Now see if any device gets disconnected from the network or not.

Re: Hp laptop disconnects PS3 from the network when connected

According to me the router must not be able to handle the number of devices which are connected to it. If the router is not able to handle the devices which are connected to it then it will disconnect the devices which are already connected when a new device connects to the router. It can be because of the firmware of the router. Try and upgrade the firmware of the router by connecting it to the computer using console cable. Visit the official site of the manufacturer of the router and then download the latest firmware which is available for the model of the router you are using. Install it on the router and then check if all the device can maintain connectivity or not.

Re: Hp laptop disconnects PS3 from the network when connected

The default IP version of Windows 7 operating system is IPv6 while default IP version of Windows XP is IPv4. Therefore when the computers which are running on the following operating system are connected then the problem of protocol mismatch will rise which will create problems in the network. To be able to connect the Windows 7 computer to the network, open the network connection wizard. Right click on the LAN and select properties. Go to TCP/IP properties and remove the check mark from the "Enable IPv6" and apply the settings. Now try to connect the laptop to the router.
