    Details about Win32/Dogkild.C

Recently I have read alot about infection from the Win32/Dogkild.C worm. I have recently setup a Windows 7 desktop at my place and I am not that aware of computer technicalities. I am using the Norton Internet Security antivirus. I want to know how can I prevent my desktop from Win32/Dogkild.C worm as well as if infected how to remove this worm successfully?

    Win32/Dogkild.C Worm

The Win32/Dogkild.C is a malicious worm that is intended to download unknown malicious contents to infected user's machine. It also is known to propagate through various removable portable drivers such as Pen drives, CD/DVD etc. It is considered a major threat to the infected host as it makes way for other trojans, malwares and viruses to make their way to the infected host.

    Win32/Dogkild.C also tracked as Win32/AutoRun.KillAV.E

The Win32/Dogkild.C worm also tracked as Win32/AutoRun.KillAV.E is already been recorded by Microsoft as a Severe Level threat. The worm not only infects a system but it also spreads from the infected system. To verify the presence of this worm one should look for the:
    %windir%\fonts\cauin.sys
    %temp%\dll<random>.tmp
    c:\dianlw.dll
If the above files are to be found then the worm has infected that system. Run am anti virus scan in Safe mode to detect and delete it.

    Use AVAST anti-virus

My friend's computer was indeed infected by the Worm: Win32/Dogkild.C. This was detected when I plugged a pen drive to my computer which I earlier used on my friend's computer. The advantage I had was that I had installed AVAST anti-virus which detected this malicious worm and terminated it then and there. I am using AVAST since the last one year and had no issues with my computer security.

    Win32/Dogkild.C infects restore points

The built-in System Restore software of Windows is a very handy tool to re-construct Windows settings in case of a virus, trojan or worm infection. But there are a number of malicious codes which now are attacking the System Restore as well. One such malicious program is the Win32/Dogkild.C worm. This worm deletes or corrupts the System Restore points thereby restricting the user from restoring system settings.
