Computer detect W97M/Vmpck.gen virus

Hi all,

I am using acer laptop installed with windows Xp operating system. But when i turned it on today it gave me a warning that your system is infected by W97M/Vmpck.gen and it also seems that a number of files also have been affected by this virus. please tell me how can i delete the W97M/Vmpck.gen virus from my system.It also corrupt my windows directory.
