Do you have these problems when wiring up your netbook directly via ethernet? Do a scan using your wireless adapter's or network utilities and if there are neighbouring wifi networks, change the router to a channel 5 stops from the strongest neighbour.

The terminal defaults to your home directory. Ubuntu has major problems with the drivers for the wireless card on EEEPC HA. The wireless hardware is not supported by any Linux distro at this time. The desktop is a separate sub-directory of this, so you'll need to "cd Desktop" first. Take care withe capital letters, Ubuntu's file system (EXT3) is case sensitive.

Use the "ls" command to see if the file is in the current directory. If wired Ethernet works fine, then it's likely to be the wireless hardware, as you fear, not a software problem. You said that it also occurs in Windows XP, so it's not the Ubuntu drivers.

Go to the official Asus web site if you need help with the MSI netbook. While there check that the router has not been set to automatic channel select -- auto sometimes switches channels unexpectedly and some OS can't keep track. As for finding the wireless, use the "function keys" press the "fn" key and "f11" at the same time.

According to me, you need to changethe atl1e.ko filename in terminal and see whether it works or not. Networking is another aspect of the ASUS netbooks that has been done extremely well. Rather than relying on the older 802.11b/g wireless networking, the Eee PC 1005HA comes equipped with a 802.11n compatible wireless.
