The firewall or firewall software, Windows 7 aims to define which communications are permitted or forbidden to pass on the home network or the Internet to your computer. This personal firewall checks both programs trying to send or receive data and monitor port activity, creating the need automatically rules of trust or at the request of the user communication rules specific.

The firewall works by default in classic mode and does not filter outgoing data. By visiting the main panel we will be able to enjoy the full potential of this tool by the operator in duplex mode. This requires clicking the Advanced Settings link. The Windows Firewall with Advanced Security opens. The first thing to do is click on Properties. In the window that follows, for the Domain Profile tab, private and public under State of firewall you choose On (recommended).

It is also necessary for these tabs (domain, private and public), always under the status of the firewall, to validate incoming connections blocked by default and outbound connections Block. Now for the three locations by default, the firewall must be followed to the letter the filtering rules that you create. Returning in the advanced panel, you can see from the overview of the status icons for the three profiles is active. The inbound and outbound connections are blocked. Your computer no longer communicates either inside or outside and he'll have to make the laborious creation of filtering rules for all applications requiring a connection.

You can make sure that your firewall is well armed, test the security of your PC by visiting a site that will test your vulnerability. There's a lot on the Net with Shields UP!, PCFlanks, or Secunia. It will issue a report on the hidden ports, the status of ports to filter more dangerous Trojans, there are also tests for vulnerabilities ...

The firewall in Windows 7 is relatively flexible, since it connects automatically if no firewall is active. However, it automatically shuts off if you decide to install a third-party software. You can also for readability, see rules per profile, status, group. If for whatever reason you decide to reset the firewall, just run it in classic mode (Start, Control Panel, System and Security, Windows Firewall) and validate the default settings.

Many users have complained about the quality of the firewall from Microsoft. What was perhaps true that Windows XP is no longer for the Vista or Windows Seven that are virtually identical and more mature. As most firewalls quality, filter module itself better communications.

The Windows Firewall is interesting in that it can work two ways. The first mode, classic, requires no technical knowledge and are happy to accept connections with programs that recognize and block all incoming connections with unidentified programs not included in the list of allowed programs said. The second mode, advanced, goes beyond security and allows the user to create a case by case rules for incoming and outgoing drastic which he alone is responsible. Here, everything is blocked by default and must be defined.
