How to create shortcut to network connection under Windows 7

The question seems silly but I can not create a shortcut on my desktop that points to a network connection in Windows 7. In doing research, I found many tricks to create a shortcut to all network connections but not a shortcut directly to the network connection that I want. In Windows XP, I put a shortcut on my desktop when I right click on it to connect.

    Just like in Vista:

    1. Right click on your desktop, select "New" and "Shortcut".
    2. In the location box, copy and paste explorer.exe ::{7007ACC7-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E} and click "Next".
    3. Give it a name such as Network Connections and click "Finish".

But, no, I do not want a shortcut to the network connections menu but a shortcut to a network connection states.

I have a VPN connection. In Windows XP I created a desktop shortcut to this connection: I clicked and it connects (XP gives me the window login and password).

For Windows 7, the method you gave me (like all the ones I found) me back on the control panel network. I still need more clicks to the actual connection.

    1. Right click on the Network icon in the Notification area, and select Open Network and Sharing Center.
    OR
Open Control Panel, and click on Network and Sharing Center icon.
    2. Click on Change adapter settings.
    3. Right click on the network connection for which you want to have a Local Area Connection Status shortcut and then click on Create Shortcut.
    4. Finally click on Yes and your shortcut will be placed on desktop.

Yes, this is what I was looking for and thank you for your help! However its weird that I have tried to right click on Network icon but I didn't find the menu (create shortcut). I will look it again.
