    What threat does W95.SK have?

Recently, on scanning my system with Kaspersky antivirus, I got an alert for W95.SK. Is this some kind of virus or any other infection? As I have heard about this infection for the first time, what kind of threat does W95.SK have to the system? What is the removal method of this infection as I am not able to delete it with the help of my antivirus. I am using Windows 98 and my browser is Mozilla Firefox.

This type of infection had affected my computer too. Even, I had the query that what type of threat does W95.SK have. This W95.SK belongs to the dropper/spyware category and it has a very high threat leve, that means that is a very dangerous kind of infection. These "droppers" install virus and other malware onto the system. If it is present on the system, that means the system has become unstable and insecure with malicious softwares on it.
They are also known by the following names:
    1. Win95.SK.8699
    2. Univ.B

Re: What threat does W95.SK have?

I have the answer to your question that what threat does W95.SK have.
It is a dropper that modifies the .HLP(WINDOWS HELP FILES) files when they are activated in the system. The code of the virus is simply put on the disk and then it is run.
It also executes its code on archives such as ZIP, HA, RAR, ARJ, etc.
The manual deletion of this virus is done by deleting the vba.com file.

Re: What threat does W95.SK have?

The threat that W95.SK have are to be worried by Windows 95 and Windows 98 users. For such users, it is important to know that it is a backdoor, which has the code to obtain unauthorized access to any system it infects. They forcefully come into the system and find out the loop holes from which hackers/attackers can gain access to the system. Thus, it has a high level of danger as it cannot be viewed by the user.
Spyware Doctor 6.1.0.447 is a good spyware that can help us against such backdoors.
