Mostly the virus is detected by antivirus when it tries to get activated in zip files there is no problem with it as it is not active so will not able to spread just try to unzipp it Avira will catch it .

Well Avira intervened only when you will unzipped the file and clicked on the executable files like exe Somewhere I read that Norton detects viruses even when they are still compressed so such ability is depends on virus developer so change antivirus

A file to be executed have to be loaded into memory. Also to exploit a vulnerability in a software, the exploit must be loaded into memory. When something behaves in this way, the antivirus software with its real-time protection (whatever it is) the intercepts and parses it, that's all. According to this reasoning properly understood, the malware still arriving by mail are intercepted by anti-malware that do not have a check for e-mail because of their execution are loaded into memory!

There is also clear that any attempt is intercepted file access, if you well with the cursor try Norton, who analyze every single file, it is inevitable that they are slow and a bit bricks. However there is options so possibility to scan the archives.
