How to create a network between vista and windows 7

    Hello,
The big worry for me right now is that I installed windows 7 on a HDD containing data that I want to share with a pc in vista.
    I therefore made sure that,
    1) All the firewalls are disabled
    2) I can not create a local group through windows 7.
    3) I disabled the sharing password
    4) The folder that I shared can be seen by the pc, but still and error shows up: "Windows can not access \ \ ..."

So if anyone could help me it would be great. Thanks.

I think that Microsoft had made Windows 7 pretty secure even for local lans. You'd need to use that keycode you generated on the W7 box on the Vista to connect. See the help and support pages for share folders. There isn't a real good how to but if you read a few you should get connected.

I dont have any problems here on my pc networking with vista to windows 7, it is supported fully and if you go to the network and sharing centre in windows 7 and choose Advanced networking (do not set up a Homegroup as this is windows 7 only), and either follow the instructions to join an existing network or to create a new home network. As for your remote network the best way would probably be a "Virtual Private Network" or VPN, which uses the internet to bridge the gap between the locations.

I also know one more trick to make Windows 7 shared folders accessible from vista, you first need to go in advanced sharing options, change the encryption from 128-bit to 64-bit.I also found out that Win7->Vista access worked fine, Vista->Win7 was asking for a password even though i disabled password protected sharing. Also, when i did enter the correct password and username, it still claimed it was incorrect. After changing the ecryption settings and a reboot, i could access my shares without a password.
