cmd.exe cannot be found box keeps popping up

My one of the Xp computer was got infected by a virus. I run mu AVG antivirus that removed the virus completely from my system.

But after that in every about 2 to 3 minutes i get an error message saying," cmd.exe cannot be found." that keeps popping up. Please help.

Try doing a System Restore to before this started happening. Go to Start > Run and type rstrui.exe and press Enter.rstrui.exe is a process which allows System Restore for Microsoft Windows Operating Systems.efore you open the System Restore console, you may want to save your work and close all programs since System Restore requires you to restart your computer.There are two ways to access System Restore – through Help and Support or through your All Programs folder.To do it through Help and Support:

• Click Start, and then click Help and Support.
• Under Pick a Task, click Undo changes to your computer with System Restore.
• Follow the instructions on the wizard.

To do through the All Programs menu:

• Click Start.
• Point to All Programs.
• Point to Accessories.
• Point to System Tools.
• Click System Restore.
• Follow the instructions on the wizard

I think system restore can help you out. Try clicking on "Start", "Run" then enter sfc /scannow. That should restore any corrupt system files from the cache or the installation CD. In addition i can say the best thing to do would be just to recover the original cmd.exe from your WinXP64 CD-ROM. You'll have to use Explorer to copy it to the right place, not the command prompt.

Thank you friends for the quick and valuable reply. I'll perform the system restore and hope it fixes this error. I'll let you know the result after doing that. Help appreciated.
