    How to fix Error 3154

I am getting some trouble in creating a virtual machine running from my windows xp pro sp2 system. Windows server is run by the server which is running SCVMM. Every thing was going well at the point when the agent was collecting the information from the xp machine. But when I try to copy the hard drive the error comes out denoting that a internal error is occurred trying to contact an agent 3154.

I will recommend you to ensure that the agent is properly installed and running. If not then re-install it. Then just check out that the WMI service is properly installed and running. Then restart your agent back again. Try back again the process again. The other cause of this error can be the vmm. The vmm might failed to reach the machine.

Try this one. Put the value 304423 to the p2vbitstcpport registry. After that restart your VMM service. It is fine if you do not restart the whole machine only the service which is using the services.msc. If still the problem persist then uninstall the p2v agent from your system i.e. physical machine. Then install it back again. Also make sure that the port is not engaged by other application or you can also change it. Restart the VMM service so that the changes take affect.

The problem occur because the port is used by BITS to perform the physical 2 virtual on the main computer which might be used by any other application or service. By default port 443 is used for P2V in SCVMM 2008. The solution to fix this is first stop the service or application which is currently using port 443. To do go on the main or source computer and give the command : - NETSTAT -ANB. Then stop the service listening to port 443 and retry the P2V job. Second solution you can do is change the default port used by virtual manager for P2V.
