Vista PC doesn't detect WIN98 PC through router

I've recently acquired a D-link dir100 router in order to connect a voice-over IP phone and two PCs to the internet.
Everything is working well except for the fact that the two PCs don't detect one another on the local network.
One is a new Vista PC, the other a 'vintage' win98 PC.
The Vista machine detects the router, but no other PC on the network.
The router detects both PCs and I have reserved IP settings for both on the router.
Can someone help me out?

Give an ip address to both computers. Make sure it is in the same range. You cannot check network status in windows 98, so you will need to ping the router and see it you get success. Then Make sure both your computers are in the same workgroup. Now if these two steps are done successfully then your both computers can talk to each other. Now in vista you will have to select the network type as private network.
