Port zoning is used to update zone information every time a user changes switch ports. In addition, port zoning does not allow zones to overlap.
Port zoning utilizes physical ports to define security zones. A users access to data is determined by what physical port is connected to.
Port zoning is normally implemented using hard zoning, but could also be implemented using soft zoning.
Port zoning is a method of defining security device ports(Fibre Channel N_Ports an/or NL_Ports) that are permitted to communicate with each other via fabric.
Constraint - Any two N_Ports and/or NL_Ports that are not members of at least one common zone are not permitted to communicate via the fabric.
Port zone membership is restricted by:
(i) port location on a switch, (i.e., Domain_ID and port number)
(ii) the device's N_Port Name.
