unsure "Open With" dialog box When Double click the Drives

    Hello Everyone,

Recently i had reinstalled Windows Xp SP3 on my system. Whenever i try to click on C or D drive on my system, a strange Windows pop-ups on my screen and asking me to choose the application in order to run the thing on which i had clicked. I would like to know that how do i turn off that and only would like to open any application by double clicking on the icons? Does any body knows about this issue? Kindly help me out to get rid of the above the problem.

    Thanks.

Looks like an infection with Virus.VBS.Small.a or something similar. First you should tell Windows to show ‘hidden’ AND ’system’ files + uncheck ‘hide extensions of registered file types’ in My Computer --> Tools --> Folder Properties --> View. Then do a search for all files with the name “autorun” (ANY extension) and delete them. Be careful: they may be *anywhere* - in player folders, system32, etc. Then you should open the Registry Editor (Start - Run - regedit) and check the following:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows NT/Current Version/WinlogonThe parameter Userinit in the right window should have the following value C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe. Any additions should be deleted. If your system is installed on disc D, then it will read D:\WINDOWS\and so on. Now delete the following key:HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/MountPoints2. This step should be repeated for ALL users on the computer including the built-in Administrator account. Now reboot the computer and you should be able to open the discs.

    Try out this one.

Show system protected files Windows Explorer-->Tools-->Folder Options-->View. Check “Show hidden files and folders”. Uncheck “Show protected Operating System Files”. You will receive a warning, but carry on. Go back and re-check the box afterwards. Then again go to Start-->Run--> type in regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

The virus might leave an finger print (autorun file) in each of the drives. So you are not able to open the drives. Follow the steps to remove it.

    1. Go to 'Run" type "cmd' the Command promt window will open..
    2. Type "cd\"
    3. If C drive ,type " C:
    4. Type "attrib -r -h -s autorun.inf"
    5. del autorun.inf

Follow these steps with each drives C,E,D etc. Then restart the computer.

Hope so it might help you out.
