idea How do i set up a W2k3 based FTP server

    Hello Everybody,

I would like to create a secure FTP Server using W2k3. Its for the benefits of the clients who can access files which are uploaded on the FTP site. So, can any body help me to set up a secure FTP Server using W2k3? Does any body knows about FTP server? Kindly provide me the correct logical steps to set up an FTP Server using W2k3. Any kind of information would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

You can use the URL Scan 2.5 for IIS6. Also check out Resource Kit. You need to make sure that port 80 and 21 are open on the IP of your web/ftp server.

For services, you want to enable IIS, then within the IIS snap-in, you would want to setup the FTP section. I never setup an FTP server using Windows built in FTP functions. May be IIS6 is better. I haven't played with it.

To take this one step further, you can also turn your Windows PC into a Secure FTP (SFTP) server. SFTP is a program that uses SSH to transfer files. Unlike standard FTP, it encrypts both commands and data, preventing passwords and sensitive information from being transmitted in clear text over the Internet. It is similar to FTP, but because it uses a different protocol, you must use a FTP client that supports SFTP.
