    TR/Rootkit.Gen problem

    Hi all.
    Today while scanning Antivir reported TR/Rootkit.Gen that I managed to eliminate by Combofix. It destroyed 3 files in system32 (k: \ windows \ system32 \ 117.exe, k: \ windows \ system32 \ 858.exe, k: \ windows \ system32 \ system.exe).
Yet it has again become active because I can not go on security sites. So is there a charitable soul could help me please? Thank you

    1) Post the ComboFix report.

    2) Download HijackThis and install it on your desktop.
    - Double-click on HijackThis.
    - Generate a report by following these instructions:
    - Run it and click Do a scan and save log file.
    - The report begins with the notepad.
    - Post the report here.

    Re: TR/Rootkit.Gen problem

    TR/Rootkit.Gen Description:
A generic detection routine designed to detect common family characteristics shared in several variants.

This special detection routine was developed in order to detect unknown variants and will be enhanced continuously.

Therefore update your antivir anti-virus and do a full scan and remove all the nasties that you get.

I think this is false positive? Since i tried to update comodo memory firewall since it asked for me to update it. As soon as i clicked ythe update choice, Avira pops up and says that C:\Documents and settings\Bracca\Application Data\Comodo\Comodo\Memory Firewall\Data\Tempfiles\cmfd.sys as a Rootkit/Trojan. Weird since Avria has never done this before.

    Re: TR/Rootkit.Gen problem

    First run this SAS scan
EDIT: Do you have Aviras anti rootkit application also?

Please download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free
    • Double-click SUPERAntiSypware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
    • An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
    • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and unzip into the program's folder.)
    • In the Main Menu, click the Preferences... button.
    • Click the "General and Startup" tab, and under Start-up Options, make sure "Start SUPERAntiSpyware when Windows starts" box is unchecked.
    • Click the "Scanning Control" tab, and under Scanner Options, make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):

    1. Close browsers before scanning.
    2. Scan for tracking cookies.
    3. Terminate memory threats before quarantining.

    • Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen and exit the program.
    • Do not run a scan just yet.

Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

    Scan with SUPERAntiSpyware as follows:
    • Launch the program and back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
    • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
    • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan and click "Next".
    • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
    • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
    • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
    • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes" and reboot normally.
    • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.

    1. Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
    2. Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
    3. If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
    4. Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.

    • Click Close to exit the program.

    Re: TR/Rootkit.Gen problem

I am so stuck and I don't know a thing about computers!!! I got the TR/Rootkit.Gen and TR/Dropper.Gen. I am told by AntiVir this is a rootkit.
Whats the easiest way to remove this? I downloaded hyjackthis and I know I need to be careful with it. I need to know what I check or uncheck to remove the rootkit and/or dopper. Here is my log....
