I have found a fix that worked for me.
Go to Start =>Control Panel =>Programs and Features =>Click “Turn Windows Features on or off” =>Uncheck “Remote Differential Compression”.
Before I disabled this feature, i was getting speed at 12mb/s ,immediately after this was done ,i have been getting 70mb/s.
Maybe some firewall setting was causing the network slow down. If you are using McAfee trial security suite, there is no disable option for firewall. Just uninstall it and you will get better speed for lan sharing.
Disable the automatic adjustment (Auto Tuning) for the TCP window size on the network. To do this, follow these steps: Click Start , type cmd and press Enter. Type netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.![]()
Vista Index can be the issue too. If the Index have more collections, it will run more faster. You can modify the Index options. Or for the test, disable the Index feature from Add/Remove Applications. If you have external drive, try to upgrade the latest firmware.
Check the hardware such as NIC and switch settings. Make sure the speed duplex are matching. Install latest NIC driver.
