    Help with my WiFi network!

    hello

I have some problem with my network connection at home. I just switched to broadband providers from BT to someone called TalkTalk.

TalkTalk provided us with a new router (D-Link) and so I thought i got rid of my Netgear one, as the new network isn't compatible I don't think.

Now, Netgear is working fine with my MacBook, and I am recieving full signal all around the house. But the D-Link router doesn't get to my MacBook very often. Once in a while I am able to use it, but without moving my computer, it loses the connection again.

Please help me in this problem

Sounds like you aren't getting the range you need. The D-Link may be able to use and extended antenna (you just remove the old one and attach this) - if so, I'd try that

    D-Link ANT24-0700 - antenna

The simple way to secure your network is WEP or by restricting the MAC addresses you allowaccess to (MAC address filtering).
Note its MAC and not Mac - MAC stands for Media Access Control, and every network device (eg an Airport card) has a unique one. Go to About this Mac...More info....Netork and look up the Mac addresses for your Airport card, it will look like 00:b7a6:52:c9 ie 6 pairs of characters seperated by colons.
That is the address you have to specify in your Router security setup page.

WEP in theory can slow up data transmission because everything has to be encrypted and decrypted. MAC address filtering just blocks out any device not on your list - ie any passing stranger with a wireless laptop. But if you run a big network with loads of wireless clients it would be a pain to set up and maintain, but its very good for little networks.

Check that the power LED in the front of the DI-514 is ON.
Check that the link light status of the Ethernet port used by your computer is ON.
Check your computer's network settings - verify that your TCP/IP settings are correct. In windows 95/98, you can type winipcfg in the DOS prompt. In windows XP/NT/2000, you can type ipconfig in the DOS prompt.
Check to see that your computer's IP address is in the same network as the DI-514. The computer's IP address should be in the range from 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.254.
Type http://192.168.0.1 in your browser's URL interface.

Make sure that your Cable or DSL modem is connected properly.
Try resetting your Cable or DSL modem by powering the modem off and on.
If you are using Dynamic IP addressing, make sure that your Cable or DSL modem is DHCP capable.
Some Internet Service Providers (ISP) require a MAC address to be registered with them. In this case, make sure you specify the correct WAN Ethernet MAC address required by the ISP under "Home" > "WAN" > "Dynamic IP address".
If your connection is DSL and your ISP requires you to input username and password, then your connection is a PPPoE connection. To connect to the ISP's PPPoE server, you have to input your PPPoE username/password from "Home" > "WAN" > "PPPoE".
If your connection is Cable and your ISP requires you to input a specific host computer name, you have to input the host computer name from "Home" > "WAN" > "Dynamic IP address".
