sharing a printer between 2 network

hi all the friends

i m a network eng.

i have two diffrent network
in my org.

one is 192.168.2.1
2nd 22.56.56.2

i purchesd drum printer

so now i want to connect printer with both network at a same time.
and printer has only one lan port.
so friend what i shuld do.

There are a number of ways that you could accomplish this one.

1 -- You would need to set up a router to route traffice from your 192.0.0.0 network to your 210.0.0.0 network and vice versa. This could be a windows/linux based server with RIP or some other routing protocol set up on it. Or you could go with a dedicated hardware router, these can be more expensive though.

2 -- You could set up a central file server to host all of your files as well as your printer. This machine would have two NICs in it, one with the 192.0.0.0 address and one with the 210.0.0.0 address. That way both networks could communicate with the server.

In order to get both networks to access the Internet, you would need to go with option 1. This is the only way without using a proxy, which I think ISA may do. ISA may also do the filtering that you are talking about.

You can do that in a simple way without using a router. It can be done in the following ways :

The computer on which the printer is connected, must have two IP Address, One from each network.
This way, the computer will be a part of both networks.
Now connect the printer from the network as done usually.

You need to buy a print server which will make your printer directly connect to the switch. After this has been done, you can assign an IP address to the Printer on the network.

Once the IP address is assigned, you can add a route on your router saying that to go from one network to other network use this interface... (now this route statement depends upon the router u use...)

Once this is done, you will be able to add the printer on any machine and share it across the networks....
