ULTIMATE ANTIVIRUS 2008 Problem

Upon browsing through web I was invited by "Ultimate Antivirus 2008" to activate a free scan.

I decided against this and proceeded to delete the application only to find that it was not listed in "Add / Remove Programs".

System restore was not successful either...it just kept going into reboot mode each time! Please help me for the same.

Removal Instructions for Ultimate Antivirus 2008

1. Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, or MBAM, from the following location and save it to your desktop:

2. Once downloaded, close all programs and Windows on your computer, including this one.

3. Double-click on the icon on your desktop named Download_mbam-setup.exe. This will start the installation of MBAM onto your computer.

4. When the installation begins, keep following the prompts in order to continue with the installation process. Do not make any changes to default settings and when the program has finished installing, make sure you leave both the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware checked. Then click on the Finish button.

5. MBAM will now automatically start and you will see a message stating that you should update the program before performing a scan. As MBAM will automatically update itself after the install, you can press the OK button to close that box and you will now be at the main program.

6. On the Scanner tab, make sure the the Perform quick scan option is selected and then click on the Scan button to start scanning your computer for Ultimate Antivirus 2008 related files.

7. MBAM will now start scanning your computer for malware. This process can take quite a while, so we suggest you go and do something else and periodically check on the status of the scan. When MBAM is scanning it will look like the image below.

8. When the scan is finished a message box will appear.

You should click on the OK button to close the message box and continue with the UltimateAntivirus2008 removal process.

9. You will now be back at the main Scanner screen. At this point you should click on the Show Results button.

10. A screen displaying all the malware that the program found will be shown as seen in the image below. Please note that the infections found may be different.

You should now click on the Remove Selected button to remove all the listed malware. MBAM will now delete all of the files and registry keys and add them to the programs quarantine. When removing the files, MBAM may require a reboot in order to remove some of them. If it displays a message stating that it needs to reboot, please allow it to do so. Once your computer has rebooted, and you are logged in, please continue with the rest of the steps.

11. When MBAM has finished removing the malware, it will open the scan log and display it in Notepad. Review the log as desired, and then close the Notepad window.

12. You can now exit the MBAM program.

2. In the "All or part of the the file name" section, type in "Ultimate Antivirus 2008" file name(s).
3. To get better results, select "Look in: Local Hard Drives" or "Look in: My Computer" and then click "Search" button.
4. When Windows finishes your search, hover over the "In Folder" of "Ultimate Antivirus 2008", highlight the file and copy/paste the path into the address bar. Save the file's path on your clipboard because you'll need the file path to delete Ultimate Antivirus 2008 in the following manual removal steps.

Step 2 : Use Windows Task Manager to Remove Ultimate Antivirus 2008 Processes

1. To open the Windows Task Manager, use the combination of CTRL+ALT+DEL or CTRL+SHIFT+ESC.
2. Click on the "Image Name" button to search for "Ultimate Antivirus 2008" process by name.
3. Select the "Ultimate Antivirus 2008" process and click on the "End Process" button to kill it.
4. Remove the "Ultimate Antivirus 2008" processes files:

This automatic removal method is for non-techie computer users. If you’re too lazy to learn about spyware removal or how to access sensitive files in your computer, then this is the method for you.
Before you start: Print or bookmark these instructions because you’ll have to reboot into Safe Mode. Also back up your computer in case you make a mistake.

1. Download and save SmitFraudFix to your desktop.
   
2. Restart your computer in Safe Mode (how to do safe mode). Once the desktop appears, double click on the SmitfraudFix.exe on your desktop.
   
3. After the credits screen, you’ll see a menu. Select the option number 2, which is ‘Clean (safe mode recommended)’, and then press Enter to delete infect files.
   
4. SmitFraudFix will begin cleaning your computer and take a series of cleanup processes. When the process is over, it will automatically begin the Disk Cleanup program.
   
5. Once the Disk Cleanup program is complete, you will be prompted with the message ‘Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry’. Answer Y (Yes) and hit Enter. Reboot your computer.
   
6. SmitFraudFix will now check if wininet.dll is infected. SmitFraudFix will ask you whether to replace the infected file (if there’s any) ‘Replace infected file?’ Answer by typing Y (Yes) and hit Enter.
   
7. Reboot your computer to complete the cleaning process.
   
8. After reboot, a Notepad screen may appear containing a log of all the files removed from your computer. If it doesn’t appear, a file will be created called apport.txt in the root of your drive, (Local Disk C.
   
9. Restart your computer in Safe Mode (how to do safe mode).
   
10. Go to C:\Windows\Temp, click Edit, click Select All, press DELETE, and then click Yes to confirm that you want all the items to go to the Recycle Bin.
    
11. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\[LISTED USER]\Local Settings\Temp, click Edit, click Select All, press DELETE, and then click Yes to confirm that you want all the items to go to the Recycle Bin.
    
12. Reboot your computer back to normal mode. Go to Windows Update and download all critical updates.
