Hi, I have two computers at my place. i want to know can i connect them togather without using switch or a hub with just the cable? please help guys. can't wait to beat my brother in Counter-Strike.

Yes, you can connect two computers without having to use a switch/hub with just the LAN cable, but you need to modify the cable to make it a "cross over cable". Here is the image which will guide you:

thats the correct way. crimp the cable properly, you will see that as soon as u plug the cable in your computer, the lan connection which used to be unplugged will now try to acquire a network address. its better you configure a static ip address on both computers. then your done.

you can also connect the two computers via serial port using null modem technique, but that won't help you as you want a lan connection.
