Trouble shooting of Road Runner box.

Hey i'm unable to access my internet, i have a Road Runner box which is connected with linksys wireless router and it goes directly to my computer. When i try to plug my system directly to the Road Runner box i'm able to access internet, but when i try to run my system using linksys router to Road Runner box it displays the message cannot access internet. It does not allow me to access internet. Can any one tell me how to setup my router, so that i would be able to access my internet?

    Thanks.

    1) Check that the Road Runner modem is inserted into the routers Internet Port.

    2) Check which port on the back of the router that the computer(s) are connected to.

    3) Check the illumination of lights 1 - 4 on the front of the router, each number corresponds to the port on the back of the router that the computer(s) are connected to. If the link light is not illuminated for one of the connections, make sure that the PC is turned on and that both ends of the cable are firmly plugged into their corresponding ports.

    4) Also make sure that the Internet link light is illuminated solid, or flickering occasionally. If the Internet Link is blinking.

    * If there is no link light illuminated for the port that the computer that is unable to get online is plugged into, then try another port (preferably one that is known to work).

*If there is still no Link Light for the port that the computer is plugged into, try taking a different cable and plugging into the Router and the other end into the Computer.

    * Follow these steps if you are using Windows Xp on your system.

    1. Click on the Start menu, then click on the Run option.

    2. When the "Run" window appears, input control ncpa.cpl into the "Open" field.

    3. Click on the OK button and the "Network Connections" or "Network and Dial-up Connections" window should appear.

    4. Double click on the Local Area Connection that is being is having its speed reduced.

    5. When the "Local Area Connection Status" window appears, click onto the Properties button.

    6. After the "Local Area Connection Properties" window opens, click on the Configure button then click on the Advanced tab.

    7. When the "Advanced" area loads, look for one of the following, or something that looks similar under the "Properties" area:
Link Speed/Duplex Mode, Media Type, Connection Type, or Mode

    8. After you find one of those categories, click on it and change the "Value" on the right from Auto to 10 H/D, 10 Base T, etc.

    9. Click OK then OK or Close

Check out whether it is getting a valid IP address.

    * Follow these steps to check out the valid ip address:-

    1. Click on the Start menu, then click onto the Run option.

    2. When the "Run" window appears, input CMD into the "Open" field and then click on the OK button.

    3. Once the DOS prompt comes up type in IPCONFIG /ALL

    4. Check that the adapter is obtaining a valid router IP address which is 192.168.1.XXX or anything but an IP similar to 169.254.XXX.XXX, or a "Auto Configuration" IP Address or "Invalid" IP Address, 0.0.0.0

If the PC is directly connected to the cable modem, the computer will obtain an IP address. You can manually renew the IP address on the PC to test to see if a connection has been made.

    * Follow these steps assuming that you must be using Windows Xp on your system.

    1. Click on the Start button on the lower left-hand part of your screen and then click on Run .

    2. Type in 'command' and click OK .

    3. A black window, the DOS prompt, appears. Enter 'ipconfig' and press Enter.

    4. An IP address beginning with something like this 217.162.x.x., 80.218.x.x., 80.219.x.x., 84.72.x.x., 84.73.x.x., 84.74.x.x. or 84.75.x.x should appear under IP address on the right.

    5. If not, enter 'ipconfig/release' at the DOS prompt and press Enter. Now enter 'ipconfig/renew' and press Enter again.
